DR Automobiles, an Italian automotive group that debuted among carmakers in 2006, offers the EVO5 through its new EVO sub-brand. An adventurous SUV that will have a say in the European market in general and in France in particular.
The low-cost EVO brand, present in France, is indeed a series derived from the Italian brand DR, which, like several other manufacturers, wants to get the Romanian brand into trouble. A living example is the EVO5, Italy’s low-cost SUV, which is already one of Dacie Duster’s worst rivals.
On the outside, the EVO5 receives headlights with polyellisoid projectors and fog lights and a rear-view mirror with integrated LED turn signal. The rear lights consisting of vertically adjustable lights are manufactured in classic and synthetic shapes. EVO5 is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the EVO5, the multifunction steering wheel and seats are covered with synthetic leather and hand-sewn fabric. The sunroof can be opened completely or with a variable slope. The volume of the trunk (petrol version) is 550/1800 dm3. The EVO5 is equipped as standard: infotainment system with 8-inch mirror screen, reversing camera, cruise control, automatic air conditioning with outdoor thermometer.
In terms of safety, we find essential safety systems such as: ABS, ESP, EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and ASR (Traction Control). The safety equipment list also includes emergency brake assist, hill start assist, tire pressure monitoring system, anti-theft device with immobilizer, speeding warning and anti-intrusion side bars.
The in-line ACTECO 4-cylinder under the hood offers 120 horsepower and a maximum torque of 149 nm (maximum LPG torque 140 nm). The maximum speed reaches 175 km / h. Unfortunately, the EVO5 does not have all-wheel drive.
The EVO5 is available to order in France for € 14,900 for the 1.6 petrol engine version and € 15,900 for the LPG version (including tax). The price, which puts it on the same level as the entry-level Dacia Duster (EUR 15,490), while being more interesting in terms of both performance and standard equipment.
It is worth noting that DR Automobiles ended up at the top of the “Chinese” car sales rankings in Italy with the DR and Evo brands in 2021. The latter achieved a total of 8,362 registrations in the last twelve months, which means a net + 139.94% compared to 2020 and reached a sales share of 0.57%.
