In practice – Your iPhone as a white noise generator to help you fall asleep better

Noise to fall asleep? This may seem paradoxical. However, some sounds that are similar to noise can help you relax and why not immerse you in a restful sleep. These sounds, called whites, are signals made up of all audible frequencies, with each frequency having the same energy. According to Wikipedia, white noise (or White noise) “Denotes acute breath diversity without mathematical accuracy”. You know, the famous noise we heard at the end of the programs when the TV showed “snow”.

Analogous to white light, which corresponds to the equivalent superposition of different eye wavelengths visible to the eye, white noise is the result of the superposition of all audible frequencies emitted at equivalent power. This set of sounds of the same intensity creates a single sound. This white noise, which can ultimately seem annoying (it’s at least noise), can saturate your hearing receptors and reduce your perception of the surrounding noise. The less disturbed would then be easier to fall asleep. We use the condition here because if there are more scientific studies, it is difficult to agree on the contribution of white noise to sleep and sleep quality. Be that as it may, the internet is full of hour-long videos of snarling dishwashers, rain, wind or waves that have been watched – and most of all listened to – a million times.

As of version 15, the Apple iOS mobile operating system offers the ability to stream white noise. To do this, you need to go to Settings> Accessibility> Audio / Visual> Background Sounds.

You will then be taken to the white noise setting screen. In the Sound section, you can choose between different sounds. From balancing noise to the ocean passing through rivers and dark noise, you can choose the one that suits you.

If this technique suits you and you save too much manipulation of turning on the background sound, you can use this feature to define a keyboard shortcut for convenience. After activating (Settings> Accessibility> Accessibility with shortcuts), all you have to do is press the button on the right side of the iPhone three times for the noise to spread.
