Next week several balance changes in the classrooms

As Kaivax said in tonight, several balance changes will be introduced to classes in patch 9.2 next week shadowlands. See below for all details.


  • All classes now generate a greater threat in Tank specialization.
  • Developer’s Note: Since the beginning of this season, we’ve heard a lot of feedback from the community (and our teammates) about the decline in threats. Our intention is that a tank that actively directs damage to the enemy should be able to hold a threat on it, but simple surface-effect spells (such as Initiation or Death and Decay) should not be sufficient. We have analyzed this situation and believe that a small modification of the tank threat modifiers should help maintain this balance for the rest of the set.


  • Animal Championship
    • All skill and animal damage increased by 4%.
    • Bestial Chain will now cause your pet to hit other targets 100% of his damage (it was 90%).
  • Note to Developers: Beast Mastery has not received as many AoE benefits for its bonus set as other specifications and has moved down as a result. We increase the damage to his pets and the transmission of damage to the Bestial Chain to help his overall performance.


  • Duration of Gift of the Lich (Intermediate Necrolord) reduced by 33% in PvP.
    • Developer’s Note: Deathbringer is one of the most impressive cooldowns in the game, but with current intermediate scaling, this regularly takes over 50 seconds. We think it is necessary to shorten this duration in PvP.
  • Arcana
    • Arcane Missile damage increased by 8%.
    • Arcane Blast damage increased by 10%.
    • Bright ideas can no longer be distracted.
  • Developers’ note: We think damage to one Arcane target would benefit from an increase, but we also want to provide distraction protection for one of their spin critics with Clearcasting. This is a change that we will be evaluating more with Dragonflight, because we generally want magic buffs like these to be removable. In this case, we think that specialization is needed in the short term.


  • Mistweaver
    • Cooldown Zen Focus Tea (PvP Talent) reduced to 30 seconds (it was 45 seconds).
      • Developers’ note: Mistweavers strives to respond reliably to damage explosions and must open their primary school on a regular basis in an effort to catch up. Giving them greater access to interrupt protection is intended to make them easier to respond to damage explosions.
  • glider
    • Rising Sun Kick damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Fists of Fury damage to primary target increased by 20% This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Blackout Strike damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Tiger Palm damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Fist of the White Tiger damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
  • Developers’ Note: For balance, we take a more aggressive approach to improving damage to a single Windwalker Monks target to make their performance more competitive in raid situations where their unique strengths may not be at the forefront.


  • Discipline
    • Torrent of Light (PvP Talent) increases Smite and Penance damage by 30% (down 15%).
  • Discipline, Shadow
    • Absorption amount Power Word: Shield increased by 10% in PvP.
    • Fixed a bug that reduced the value of the Power Word: Shield critical hit in PvP.
  • Note to developers: We want to give Disciple more offensive capabilities in PvP, but we also feel that Power Word: Shield lags behind in relative strength compared to other suites.


  • Scavenger (medium) treatment reduced by 50% in PvP.
  • Outlaw
    • Eye damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Pistol Shot damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Sinister Strike damage increased by 20%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Blade Flurry damage increased to 60% primary target damage (50%). This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Endurance Brawler (PvP Talent) accumulates up to 15 times (down from 20).
  • Developer’s Note: Our intention with these changes is to improve Outlaw in single-target and 5-6 target fission situations where Blade Flurry should shine. Outlaw does not stand out enough at this time, and hopefully these changes are going in the right direction. However, in PvP, Endurance Brawler and Scavenger gave Outlaw a greater survival than intended, so we decided to reduce maximum stacks accordingly.


  • Healing Totem healing increased by 20% in PvP.
  • Basic
    • Raging Bumblebee Vortex (Kyrian Legendary Power) damage reduced by 33% in PvP.
    • Earth Shock damage is no longer reduced by 10% in PvP.
  • Improvement
    • Chain Harvest damage and treatment (Venhyrs) reduced by 15% in PvP.
  • Recovery
    • Earthen Wall Totem Absorption (Talent) is no longer reduced by 30% in PvP.
  • Developer Comment: For Shaman, we want to address some of the key moments created by Chiming Totem and Chain Harvest, but compensate for them with more permanent healing, damage, and debuffs.


  • Destruction
    • Ritual of Ruin (Bonus 2P) now lasts 30 seconds (was unlimited).
    • Summon Blasphemy (4P bonus) no longer stuns enemies in PvP.
  • Demonology
    • Felguard Legion Strike now reduces treatment efficacy to a target of 25% (10%) in PvP.
  • Developer’s Note: With these changes, we want to address the exit strategy, except in rare cases where the Warlock can create a large batch through his set bonus. At the same time, we’re trying to give Warlock enough time to respond to the Ritual of Ruin process, which lasts 30 seconds. In addition, we increase the Mortal Strike effect at Demonology pet in PvP to help deal effectively.


  • Guns
    • Mortal Strike damage increased by 10%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Overpower damage increased by 10%. This change does not apply in PvP.
    • Execute and Blame damage increased by 15%. This also applies to Protection Warriors. This change does not apply in PvP.
  • Developer Note: These changes are intended to increase the performance of a single weapon target by not affecting situations in which they already excel.
  • Fury
    • Depths of Madness (Medium) efficiency reduced by 50% in PvP.
    • Battle Trance (PvP Talent) now generates 3 Rages (there were 5) every 3 seconds for 18 seconds after using Raging Blow twice in a row on the target.
  • Developer’s Note: 9.2.5 comes with a fix where the Battle Trance PvP talent has not been activated by the Raging Blow surrogate, Crushing Blow, through the Reckless Spirit talent. The above changes are intended to address the buffs that Fury receives through this interaction.


  • Gladiator’s Distinction Stamina Bonus (PvP Set) increased to 500 (was 350).
    • Developer Note: In general, PvP damage exceeds survival, leading to an unstable gaming experience. We increase the PvP Jewelry Set Endurance bonus to reduce the damage effect in the game.
  • Cosmic Gladiator’s Resounding Resolve no longer runs through or provides immunity to interrupt effects. The description will be updated in a future patch.
    • Developer’s Note: Although the description explicitly mentions interruptions, we’ve heard feedback that this bauble removes chips that players appreciate. We will solve the description in the prepared patch.
